New York City is famous for the carriage horses that give rides to tourists in and around Central Park. The sad side of this romantic sight is that the horses live and work in extremely difficult circumstances: working in extreme weather, working in heavy traffic and exhaust fumes, and being stabled in multi-story urban buildings with no turnout and iffy fire-protection.
