by My Horse and Me, age 13

When the west was settled
They were right there
They still exist
As stallion and mare

We see them as pintos and greys
And roans and chestnuts and blacks
And buckskins and palominos and bays
They are all gorgeous to us

In the morning sunlight
Our beautiful horses
Nicker at us with all their might
They tell us they will always be there for us
