Lesson learned

Dressage Mom Archive on May 2, 2011, 1:04 am

So there is a little backstory about what happened last night with Kaswyn. Let me get caught up.I've been working with the massotherapy/biomechanical lady with Kaswyn and he's been doing very well. He hasn't been lame or uneven, but we aren't doing a whole lot of work at the trot. She's trying to help me get him to move his left shoulder using his full range of motion, which he is not prone to do. She is also getting him to use his back more effectively, because she noticed that when I ask him to

Oh no

Dressage Mom Archive on May 1, 2011, 11:07 pm

Just got the call that every horse owner hates - "Your horse is acting funny - pawing, circling his stall, and didn't finish his dinner." Crap. 7:00 pm on a Sunday. Lets hope it's just his wraps irritating him and not colic. Of course I'm heading out there now. I hope after they pull his wraps that he settles down, If not, hello emergency vet call!

Mustang VS Domestic

Mustang Diaries Archive on May 1, 2011, 2:09 am

Years ago, 20 plus, I purchased a Golden Retriever. I'd stumbled upon an ad in one of the big dog publications for a breeder here in WA. It was listed in a town a couple of counties south. Lucky for me I had an uncle in that same town, and with that uncle, a telephone book. Mind you, this was before the internet was in every home across America, so telephone books were as close as you could to a Google search. We looked up the address, and off I went.I drove down long and winding roads until I happened

Yeah sure that sounds fine.” “Jarreth Michael Richards if you want to spend the evening

No Escape from the Royal Wedding.........Even at a Horse Show.........

MiKael's Mania - Arabian Horses Archive on April 30, 2011, 5:50 am

I must admit even if there hadn't been a horse show, I was not all that enthused about the royal wedding. I did think, however, by going to the horse show I'd be able to escape some of the fanfare. Imagine my surprise to arrive at the show at about 6:15 am and every where I turned someone seems to be talking about the wedding, the dress, the kiss on the balcony. It's a good thing not all that many people are there at that early hour because, me, I'm there to do horse stuff and talk horse stuff.

Forget the Royal Wedding......... There's a Horse Show......

MiKael's Mania - Arabian Horses Archive on April 29, 2011, 6:17 am

The Royal Wedding may be taking over the world's attention but I could care less. My focus this weekend is on the Daffodil All Arabian Spring Horse Show at the fairgrounds in Puyallup. Temperatures still at least 10° below normal don't seem to have dampened the enthusiasm of the Arab set. Entries seem to be consistent with other years despite the fact we all still feel like it's winter. My horse has not shed out yet and is nowhere near fit because the weather had not be conducive to outside schooling

One does not grow if one does not change....

Hoofbeats Archive on April 28, 2011, 11:38 pm

Buddha said "One does not grow, if one does not change." I agree with that. I don't think anyone should stay in the same routine forever. But that routine is hard to break if it's something you like. Like horses....

Breaking Free

GirlsHorseClub.com Blog Archive on April 28, 2011, 12:42 pm

Story by DragonRider, age 12 | Illustration by Tasha, age 16 One day there was a horse tied by a sturdy but worn rope to a post in the middle of a fenced off field. Little pink and white flowers dotted the field and a few bees buzzed above them, minding their own business. The sky was a bright blue with a few puffy white clouds and a light breeze blew through the field, ruffling the grass and scattering the bees. But the young mare did not look very happy. She was a light grey, almost white, with

My Perspective on the Troll.........and a Message...

MiKael's Mania - Arabian Horses Archive on April 28, 2011, 1:57 am

First off, I want to thank everyone for their support and comments throughout this series and particularly on both the post about the troll and the betrayal post. I did not respond to comments individually on those two posts as I did the others. Words can't express my feelings about the overwhelming support I have received. It is truly humbling particularly knowing I have been breaking some taboos by talking about these things in such an open forum in the first place. It was validating to know I

Back From England Again!

MidWestHorse Archive on April 27, 2011, 6:38 pm

Stephen and I went back to England for a visit for two weeks and we just arrived back home this past Monday. I have tons of pictures again, however, since this is a horse blog, I thought I'd start it off with some new friends I made while I was there. It was getting toward the end of our visit and we hadn't gotten to the New Forrest again this time and I hadn't gotten my fix of horsey lovin' yet, so Stephen indulged me on our way back from the Marwell Zoo and we took a few country roads near Wickham

Starman and Marker begin their new life

\a Troll's Perspective.........

MiKael's Mania - Arabian Horses Archive on April 27, 2011, 1:40 am

It's my belief the story cannot be told without telling all aspects of it. From those things behind the scenes to those more obviously up front and in the open, all of the things related to the story exert pressure of some sort and add to the stress involved in living through such an event and recovering from it. To understand what it was like to have lived this journey, I've tried to represent everything that affected me along the way.. There are a couple of things I am still struggling with whether

A Little News..........

MiKael's Mania - Arabian Horses Archive on April 26, 2011, 2:23 am

While I usually only post horse related news to this blog, I thought this event deserved a mention. My oldest son, Bil, has a passion for volleyball as intense as my passion for horses. As I have embraced my passion, he has embraced his as well. While he's not been able to play volley ball professionally due to injury, he found a way to follow his dreams by coaching instead. As a firm believer that pursuing one's dreams is worthwhile, I am very pleased he has been able to find a way to incorporate

Spreading the word

Dressage Mom Archive on April 25, 2011, 7:16 pm

A few years ago I decided I should be wearing a helmet every time I ride. I didn't used to wear one, but once I had kids I thought it was just the smart thing to do. Now I gently question people who don't wear helmets just because I think it's a good idea to wear a helmet, even on a horse you consider to be "bomb proof."Well, here's another good idea. Riders 4 Helmets. It's a great organization, and they are giving away some great prizes in this contest. From their website -"The popular helmet awareness

Easter Escape

MiKael's Mania - Arabian Horses Archive on April 25, 2011, 1:08 am

It was pretty quiet around here for Easter with Lindsay gone. We haven't had little kids or hunts for Easter baskets for years with our kids all grown but still Lindsay has a childlike wonder about her that spills over into all holidays and I miss her when she's gone. Dave and I pretty much settled into our usual routine. He was out cleaning stalls while I got the fire going and the house warmed up for his return. With temperatures in the low 50s a small fire seems to be a must and I like to get

Home again

Dressage Mom Archive on April 24, 2011, 10:40 pm

We made it home from the show. It was only a three day show but I'm really super tired. I'll give all the details when I have the energy to write them down. Macey took a nap on the way home from the show, so right now she's in "play with me!" mode. Luckily Daddy has the energy not only to unload the car (major points there) and is playing Crazy 8's with Macey. For me it's a shower and bed. But overall it was a great weekend. She wants to go to more shows, so I think I'm going to have to start teaching
