Daffodil All Arabian Spring Horse Show.........Western Pleasure AAOTR Championship......

Part 1Once the first showmanship class was over I headed back up to the barn to wait out the time until my class. With two more showmanship classes to go I expected that to take a while but it actually came upon me much quicker than I expected. Before I knew it I heard the paddock announcer calling for class number 133 and I hadn't even begun tacking my horse up yet. With my adult amateur owner to ride (AAOTR) class being class 136, the mad dash was on getting my horse and myself ready. It always

Well, It's Been A Busy Few Weeks

MidWestHorse Archive on May 19, 2011, 4:48 pm

First, I have to say, although this was quite an investment, I think we'll save on hay over the summer in the long run. This stuff is great. Stephen invested in a handy little tow behind the tractor sprayer and we bought some of this stuff. A few weeks ago, Steve sprayed the pasture. Our biggest concern, other than Burdock and the multitude of other weeds, is the fact that more often than not, I end up locking the girls out of the pasture because of the "slobbers" they manage to get every year from

The Weather Warms......and the Computer Freezes.....

I can't believe it. We actually had two days of warmer weather with NO rain although our creek is still over its banks and there is water in one of my barn aisles. The temperatures were only in the mid 60s but considering it hasn't been since October that we've had four days in a row with temps in the 60s, it feels warmer than it really is and it was like heaven here.I spent most of my day outside trying to gain some ground on all that work missed because of our lousy weather. As I work out there,

Daffodil All Arabian Spring Horse Show.......Out of Balance......and Thoughts on Showmanship......

MiKael's Mania - Arabian Horses Archive on May 18, 2011, 12:40 am

Part 1Sunday morning I was off to the horse show in plenty of time to get my horse schooled before the morning session began. I worked at getting my Arabian horse a little more collected and with that a little slower at the jog and the lope. Not that he's not going at the rate of most horses out there, it's just that he can go so much slower and do it correctly and our goal is to be the best that we can be. Dave had done a superb job on my clunky winter riding boots. I showed them to Crystal when

Unhappy

Dressage Mom Archive on May 17, 2011, 4:19 pm

Kaswyn is still not sound. He's not lame but he's still taking a short stride on the left front. I can tell that when I do the left shoulder stretches that he's sore, and it's painful.I have Dr. Chiro coming back out on Thursday. I know that he's only had one treatment and I've only been doing the stretching and exercises for two weeks, but frankly I'm frustrated and impatient. I've done every treatment that the vets and other equine professionals have suggested. I have faithfully followed all instructions

Daffodil All Arabian Spring Horse Show.......A Little on Balance.......and Boots.......

Part 1During the show, I had realized I was having an issue with my show boots. I know that my legs are in two different positions when I ride. It stems from an old injury. My right leg comes out of my hip at a slightly different angle than my left and therefore my right leg "hangs" in the saddle a little differently than my left. Now, I know all the dressage riders must be having fits at this point. Sitting squarely and correctly is a big deal to getting the horse moving correctly. I get that but

Alfred

GirlsHorseClub.com Blog Archive on May 16, 2011, 9:00 am

Story by Toppyrocks, age 14 | Illustration by HorseFeathers, age 18 In the most eastern part of a huge grassy field a slightly chubby pony napped. He had already spent all day grazing and rolling in the sweet grass, as well as being fed treats by the granddaughter of the elderly couple that owned him. The pony’s name was Alfred, and he led one heck of a great life, but it hadn’t always been that way. * * * * * * * * * * When Alfred was just a young horse, he lived in a field with many other

Daffodil All Arabian Spring Horse Show......Charity Night......

Part 1I must admit the ride I had on Legs in that open western pleasure class ranks right up there with the national's ride I had on Dandy in the hunter pleasure class in Bonanza all those years ago. I will always remember the feeling of that ride. Having my horse so tuned in to my every move was something amazing. I couldn't have been more pleased. In addition, it was just so much fun. Even today I still feel the pleasure of that ride. It was my only class of the day and it was nearly the last

Equine Herpes claims 2 Horses

My tennies were on my feet. My boots were put away. I'd finished riding Kitty and was helping the Cowboy with a few little things that he couldn't do alone before heading home. He'd replaced a barn wall, but needed help lifting it up into place and making sure it was 'plumb'. While I was holding and he was nailing, the Doc wandered in to take a look at the progress. "You riding?" he asked me. "Already done," I replied, still holding the framework. The cowboy told me I ought to saddle one and ride

Spring......... and Colts........

What is it with boys and springtime? They don't even have to get close enough to a mare to smell her to know that something is up. I swear the sun just needs to come out for the colts, and some bigger boys too, to be acting ridiculous. Screaming, rearing, striking, all kinds of boy play abounds in the springtime, like it or not. This just might be the reason I consider myself to be a mare person. Today was a beautiful almost warm spring day. After the wet, cold spring we've had, temperatures in

Story by HealingHorses, age 14 | Photo by catscowgirl, age 16 Taylor Marie Stevens was giddy with excitement. Yet, she was also kind of nervous. The time had come for her mare, Promise, to have her foal. Taylor had been anxiously waiting ever since her dad, Tyler Stevens, had told her that Promise was in foal. And that had been quite awhile. Now, at 4:45 am, her mom, Marie Stevens, had just woke her to tell her that Promise was getting ready to foal. With a feeling of excitement, anticipation, and

Blogger Ate My Post......and All Its Comments........

I don't know what the problem has been with Blogger over the past couple of days but whatever it is, I see in resolving it Blogger has eaten my May 11th post about my open western class and all the great comments I received. I guess it's a good thing I didn't get my post up for the 12th or that would probably be missing too. Last time I checked the Blogger status board, it said they were in the processing of trying to restore all the posts that had been deleted so I guess I'll give them a while

The Picture

Story by Leopard Appaloosa, age 11 | Illustration by HorsesForever, age 11 It had always been there. The picture of the horses had been in our living room for as long as I could remember, and even longer yet. The ornate gold frame was tarnished after many years hanging on the wall. I didn’t know anything about the picture; the photographer, horses, or even whose land the horses are on. None of my friends and family knew either. Well, not until my grandma came down from England to visit. She caught

Daffodil All Arabian Spring Horse Show.......... Riding the Open Western Pleasure Class.......

Part 1I'm lucky in the respect I can put things behind me as soon as I begin riding. I don't usually carry residual stress about getting ready for a class once I can focus on my relationship with my horse That might be because my fear is more about missing my class than it is about how my ride goes. I feel pretty confident I can deal with most anything that can happen in the ring so when the gate opened and the paddock announcer called my class to order, I actually felt relieved. I would have been
