This Morning Brings............

MidWestHorse Archive on January 14, 2010, 5:36 pm

A horse whose left knee really seems to be handling the release from stall rest and lack of hand walking fairly well...........Last night found her resting herself within the open stall after dinner and the same this morning. I believe she enjoys the comfort of her stall now that she has the freedom to roam if she so chooses. Her left knee really doesn't look any different. I see while she was eating, she had brought that left rear a bit forward. My guess is that she may be a little sore after yesterday's

What A Disaster............I Hope Not!

MidWestHorse Archive on January 13, 2010, 7:04 pm

Well, this afternoon, I decided to separate Kola from Misty and take her for her first hand walk in the deep snow paddock.........It started out OK, I say that with apprehension. She had to sniff out poops and take me for a stroll around the paddock. I decided to unclasp her after a few minutes and let her do her exploring..........MISTAKE! She decided that it would be great fun to run and buck. She just missed my head at the first buck! No amount of "QUIT!" & "WHOA!" was stopping her from barrelling

Today's Winter Storm Brings.............

MidWestHorse Archive on January 7, 2010, 11:20 pm

Kola's usual dinner time or anytime "feeding" antics, which brings me great enjoyment making her wait...............Besides of which, it gives a bit of exercise prior to her stuffing her face.......Which she needs....... She is such a dork! My animals aren't spoiled at all are they...........This evening's shot of Misty's knee.........Left knee, still looking pretty good at this point. And I can tell by her actions within the stall, she is getting ready to be done with it. Next week, we'll start

Ready For Another Blast Of Snow...........

MidWestHorse Archive on January 7, 2010, 1:40 am

Well, We're due for another blast of Winter Storm coming our way......... Kola is taking "dinner" very seriously tonight as they had breakfast earlier than normal this morning.Misty says, "What? I'm eating and ready to get the hell out of solitary!"Knee is still looking better even after yesterday evening's "Spook!" when I accidentally clanged a bucket which sent Kola flying , which then sent Misty sliding in the stall to one side. Thought I may have left her re-injured, but 24 hours later we have

Back To Horsey Post..............

MidWestHorse Archive on January 4, 2010, 7:26 pm

That begins with the neediest puppy this morning.............. Isn't that the most pitiful face you've ever seen. And a reason to celebrate! This is the first time that I have gazed upon a pretty normal looking knee. Pardon my camera angle, but I assure you up close, this knee is looking great!I am so excited about this. The plan is at least two more weeks of stall rest and then perhaps a slow intro to walking and then just the small paddock in which to stretch.Fresh water today for the girls, and

Help Creating A Website

MidWestHorse Archive on January 3, 2010, 5:02 pm

Happy New Year To All.As many of you may know I earn my living from the Internet and because of a new project I am working on Fairs and Fun Days Out I realized how daunting it is for those not fully conversant with HTML, Hosting, FTP ETC. ETC. and all that Jazz to think about creating thier own website. The reason I discovered this was talking to some of the 8 out of 10 organizers of events who did not create a website to go with their event because they were worried about the technology and cost.

Merry Christmas Everyone....................

MidWestHorse Archive on December 24, 2009, 2:52 pm

Merry Christmas Everyone! As you can see, I'm quite adept at Dog humiliation................And Horse humiliation...................But the girls are in good Holiday Spirits in spite of the horrible weather we've been having.Kola was actually a good sport about it all and the girls and all of us wish you all a very Merry Christmas !This is Misty's knee this morning, of course she had slightly placed forward. It is still quite swollen, but the good thing is I haven't given her Banamine since last

Some People Are Just So clever

MidWestHorse Archive on December 22, 2009, 9:04 pm

I received a comment the other day on how someone was using my A4 Year Posters and I thought it was a clever use of them , and thought I would share it here .The lady printed off each different years poster for her families 4 generations who were coming to XMAS dinner and laminated them , then she will use them at Christmas dinner as place mats. Now as someone who created them over the last 12 months I have seen them used at School Reunions, Wedding Anniversaries and Birthdays. The reason I thought

Stall Rest It Is......................

MidWestHorse Archive on December 15, 2009, 9:13 pm

Of course neither one is too happy about it, but after continually going backward as soon as it gets cold again, I decided that she will just have to cope with stall rest. A quick trip to get some straw and to TSC for something to throw her hay in and a 16 gallon heated water bucket, this where we will now stand. Please visit for more horse stories, information and resources.

Walkin' On Broken Glass

MidWestHorse Archive on December 15, 2009, 1:43 pm

Last night our temperatures dropped again to the teens with wind chills. This morning finds Misty tender on that leg. Still moving forward, however slowly. Swelling really no different. I added more poultice last night before bedtime. She normally shivers a bit when it's cold and once she starts in on her hay , she warms up, so when I went out to feed, I noticed that leg shaking a bit and when she went towards the hay, it was as if she was walking on broken glass..........I'll let her finish eating

Update On Misty's Progress

MidWestHorse Archive on December 14, 2009, 2:15 pm

Well, it seems that we take 5 steps forward and 4 steps back sometimes. You can clearly see that the left front is still a little swollen with yesterday morning's poultice still hanging on. I took this picture this morning. Thursday brought more trouble and I set her back some. Misty had a frozen solid turd ball in her right front toe area, of course our high temp for that day was 4*F and she was literally standing on her right toe, putting more pressure on injured leg. I had to make the decision

I knew they would come in handy! Here we are posing with our new friend!Stephen posing with his master idea! Of course by the time we were finished we were completely exhausted! It's a heavy wet snow!Misty is definitely on the mend. Almost all the swelling of her knee is gone now and she continues to move forward. Maybe one more half dose of Banamine tonight and then we'll call

This Dipstick...............

MidWestHorse Archive on December 8, 2009, 10:51 pm

Managed to injure herself................Knowing that soon, a winter storm would be headed our way, Sunday morning when I returned home from work, I put on the girls' blankets and halters on them. Stephen had already fed them, and although there was little snow left on the ground, it was chilly and the ground had frozen, I still decided to let them out in the pasture area. They did not go crazy, just a little trot down to the end as I stood there watching poised to scream "Whoa!" if they got goofy
